The Heart Behind HR: Meet Tammy Williams

For this month's Employee Spotlight, we're honored to introduce someone who has been part of the BTX story for more than a decade — our HR Director, Tammy Williams. BTX has always been a place that genuinely cares about its people, and Tammy is a big part of the reason why.

A Journey That Started with a "No" — and Became a "Yes"

Tammy first joined BioTech Lab shortly after graduating from Sanford Brown College. She was a single mom at the time, just beginning her career, and — as she's quick to point out — she wasn't actually the first pick for the job. She was the second candidate. "Thankfully," she says, "things worked out the way they did."

What followed was a career shaped by opportunity, trust, and the kind of mentorship that changes a life. About two years into her role, BioTech X-ray was launched, and Tammy had the chance to work across both companies — an experience she describes as incredible. When BioTech Lab was sold in 2008, she stayed on for five more years before finding herself in a season of transition in 2013.

There wasn't an open position at BTX (BioTech X-ray) at the time, but Tamara brought her in to help with a project. One project led to another, until one day Tamara and Bill told her: "We don't have a position, but we're going to hire you."

"That moment meant everything to me," Tammy says.

She started as an assistant to the sales team, but it didn't take long for her to realize her real passion was working with employees — which led her into HR, where she's been growing and supporting others ever since.

What She Brings to the Work

When you ask Tammy what values guide her at BTX, her answer is simple and unwavering: caring.

"Caring is at the center of everything I do," she shares. "I genuinely care about people, and that shows up in how I approach my work every day. I find joy in seeing others succeed and do my best to support, guide, and encourage them along the way."

It's that same spirit — the quiet, consistent commitment to showing up for others — that makes BTX the kind of team it is. Our patient-first approach isn't just a mission statement. It's built, day by day, by people like Tammy.

Life Outside of BTX

Outside of the office, Tammy's world is full. Family is central — her kids, mom, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family all play a big role in her life. She's also a proud dog mom to Zeus, an Akita/Husky mix, and Athena, an Akita mix with a personality all her own (and no shedding — a bonus, as she'll happily tell you).

She loves bike riding, spending time with loved ones, and baking for her neighbors — something small that, in her words, "brings people together." And recently, she's been fortunate to meet someone very special, Jason, who has brought a lot of happiness into her life.

A Quiet Pattern of Service

One of Tammy's deepest commitments outside of BTX is her volunteer work with the Granite City Auxiliary Police Department — a calling that reflects her heart for service and giving back to her community. "I try to be there for people through both the good times and the challenging ones," she says. "I want those around me to know they have someone they can count on."

True to her humble nature, Tammy didn't mention any of this in her interview — but it's worth sharing, because the pattern of service speaks volumes. Over the past 10 years, Tammy has risen through the ranks from Auxiliary Officer to Sergeant to Lieutenant, while logging more volunteer hours than any other auxiliary officer in Granite City every year since 2016.

She's been formally commended for her outstanding performance in 2018 and recognized for completing 495 duty hours in 2019 alone. She's helped secure a presidential motorcade route through Granite City. When Illinois State Trooper Nick Hopkins was killed in the line of duty in August 2019, Tammy gave several hours of her holiday weekend to help with traffic control along his nine-mile funeral procession — service the Chief of Police described as "one of the most noble and honorable things we can do in this profession." And in December 2025, when an officer was shot during a call, Tammy helped coordinate the auxiliary response in what became a 13-hour, multi-agency manhunt involving more than 15 agencies, including the FBI and U.S. Marshals.

When something difficult needs doing in her community, Tammy shows up. Quietly, consistently, year after year — exactly as she does for her team at BTX.

The People Who Shaped Her

Tammy is quick to credit the people who've made her who she is. Her dad, she says, taught her the value of hard work and doing things the right way the first time. He loved his family deeply and worked tirelessly to provide for them, despite a difficult childhood of his own. Her mom passed on a legacy of kindness and compassion — lessons that show up in everything Tammy does today.

Professionally, she points to Mel Bishop, along with Tamara and Bill, as the mentors whose belief in her changed the course of her career. "I truly can't imagine my life without BTX," she reflects. "It has been such an important part of my journey."

The feeling, Tammy, is entirely mutual.

Join us in celebrating Tammy Williams — the heart behind our HR, and one more reason BTX is BTX.
