Detailed Orders, Faster Imaging — How to Submit a Compliant Exam Request
Submitting imaging orders may seem routine—but small errors or omissions can cause frustrating delays. At BTX, we want to make it easier for you to get what your patients need—quickly and without extra follow-up.
Whether you are placing the order through our convenient online portal or are calling by phone, here’s the checklist for a compliant portable X-ray order (as required by Medicare).
Here’s a checklist for compliant portable X-ray orders:
✔️ Patient’s full legal name (as listed on their official identification card–no nicknames)
✔️ Date of birth (DOB)
✔️ Full first and last name of the ordering clinician (as documented on the order in the EMR)
✔️ Body part(s) to be X-rayed (i.e., left humerus, right foot, lumbar spine, bilateral hips, etc.)
✔️ Number of views*
✔️ Relevant signs and symptoms (as documented on the order in the EMR)
✔️ Reason the exam needs to be performed portably (i.e., non-ambulatory, contagious, frail)
For ultrasound orders: Don’t forget to fax the order and face sheet to 888-403-8750 promptly after submitting the service request or login to our portal and upload the order and face sheet directly.
Following this process helps us serve your facility—and your patients—better and faster.
*For x-ray imaging of the hand, wrist, ankle, foot and shoulder, a 3 view study is considered the best practice to ensure a quality and accurate interpretation.
