An echocardiogram is an ultrasound test that picks up echoes of the sound waves as they bounce off the different parts of the heart and turns them into moving pictures that can be seen on a video screen. It is routinely used in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients with suspected or known heart disease. It can identify various abnormalities with the heart muscle, valves, and chambers of the heart as well as the heart’s ability to pump. It can also detect an abnormal fluid collection around the outside of the heart (pericardial effusion). Echocardiography is noninvasive and has no known risks or side effects.

BTX offers the following types of echocardiograms:

  • Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE)
  • Doppler echocardiogram

All BTX echocardiograms are interpreted by board-certified cardiologists.
